Encouraging anti-doping noises are coming from Moscow ahead of the 2014 Winter Olympics to be held in Sochi. Vladimir Putin (Prime Minister of Russia) told his country’s top sport officials to increase the penalties for any athlete caught doping, and to examine plans to establish a state doping control mechanism.

His statements came in the wake of three leading Russian biathletes (Ekaterina Yuryeva, Albina Akhatova and Dmitry Yaroshenko) testing positive for banned substances (a Russian version of EPO) ahead of the Biathlon World Championship in South Korea.
