Police Officers killed in stadium collapse

Reuters reports that: Two policemen have been killed in an accident at Paraguay’s national soccer stadium (Defensores del Chaco). Apparently, the accident happened on Sunday 1st February when part of a concrete ramp collapsed during an amateur football match. Five other officers are injured.

“Part of the structure gave way and fell on seven uniformed officers who were 10 to 12 metres below,” Viviano Machado, head of Paraguay’s national police force, told reporters.

“The Defensores undergoes periodic reviews and maintenance demanded by FIFA,” Juan Angel Napout, head of the Paraguayan Football Association (APF) told reporters. “But regrettably, this happened.”
