Ski girl slipped into Alpine river

January 27, 2009

A 20-yr old university student froze to death in a French ski resort after getting lost on her way home from an alcohol-fuelled night out.

At 1:42am she telephoned her friend to say she was lost, however her friend had left his phone at home. When he rang back later that evening there was no answer from her phone. Not realising the seriousness of the situation, he then went to sleep without alerting the police. Rachel’s body was found the next morning by a passing butcher.

“A post-mortem examination found alcohol in Miss Ward’s blood. Although it actually lowers body temperature, increasing the risk of hypothermia, the alcohol would have made her feel warmer than she was.”
